My
name is Lori Fusello and I am a completely self-taught floorcloth/decorative
fiber artist.
I was born in Newport Beach,
California, and currently reside in an 1830 cape on
the beautiful mid-coast of Maine. At a very young age my interest in
historical architecture and design emerged, and I began reading and
perusing anything I could find on period homes and design, particularly old
houses from the turn of the century.
I studied art history for a
time and came to feel a great kinship for the ideals of many of the
artists and designers who worked during the English Aesthetic Movement, the brief but
breathtaking Art Nouveau period, the American and European Arts & Crafts
Movement, and of course the grand poster artists from the turn of the
century (La Belle Époque). Like these artists, I too believe that as a society we need
to return to fine handmade craftsmanship and beauty, and keep these
skills alive.
I began painting table linens
and floorcloths (and other painted home textiles) to combine the two great passions in my
life: the need to create beautiful things with my own hands, and to meld that desire with my love of all things old.
What better way to pay homage to the artists, craftsmen, and
philosophies
I admire so much-- than to keep their art and ideas alive through my
own--
Enjoy!
